When to Jalbreak Your Device

Jail breaking is defined in  the computer world is to modify (a smartphone or other electronic device) to remove restrictions imposed by the manufacturer or operator, e.g. to allow the installation of unauthorized software. So there are many pros and cons when deciding if jail breaking is for you.

First we will discuss some reasons to stay away from jail breaking.

TIME AND EFFORT

Most of the time the jailbreak is successful however many people have to repeat the process over and over. Dedicate at least two hours to complete the jailbreak if you brick your device which means the device is unusable and requires a complete wipe and restore to make it functional again.

VOIDING WARRANTY

Though it's now legal to jailbreak your iPhone, doing so still voids your phone's warranty. Without a valid warranty, Apple will not cover any damages or other malfunctions related to your phone. So if you have the tendency to break Apple products or have buggy experiences with your device, you might want to reconsider.

SECURITY VULNERABILITIES

Jail breaking your device eliminates security layers designed to protect your personal information. With this security removed from your iOS device, hackers may steal your personal information, attack your network, or introduce malware, spy ware, or viruses.

These are some big reasons to stay away from jail breaking however there are plenty of reasons to jailbreak.

CUSTOMIZATION

One of the primary reasons why people jailbreak their iPhone is to be able to customize the look and feel of iOS with themes and icons from changing the look by installing themes, adding extra icons to the dock or even an extra set of keys to the virtual keyboard.

ACCESS TO  UNAUTHORIZED APPS

Cydia, an unauthorized app store open to jail broken iPhone, consumers can still access some software that Apple won’t allow. Cydia is an alternative to Apple's App Store for "jailbroken" devices, at this time including iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches, specializing in the distribution of all that is not an "app". Here is a link to Cydia's App Store to get a feel of what they offer Cydia App Store.

At the end of the day the choice is yours and if you are ready to jailbreak your device stay at your current IOS and rev and check if a jailbreak is available. Any jail breaking service or advice can contact the team at Vanmackay Computer Solutions

How to Remove Ransom ware?

Ransom ware is defined as a class of malware which restricts access to the computer system that it infects, and demands a ransom paid to the creator of the malware in order for the restriction to be removed. Ransom ware once infected on the computer usually scares the user into paying to have this problem removed, or going to their local police.

There are many different variants of ransom ware but to remove ransom ware you will need to use a boot disc (UBCD, Hirens, Kaspersky Rescue Disc). Vanmackay Computer Solutions has used many different types of software however found Kaspersky the most reliable and provided the best results.

Steps to remove ransom ware using Kaspersky rescue disc

First download a copy of Kaspersky rescue disc http://support.kaspersky.com/8092

Extract the file into a location you can easily find and you will be left with an ISO image

Vanmackay Computer Solutions recommends using imgburn which is a freeware software for burning ISO images. If you plan on not using a boot able disc and using usb stick Kaspersky has a utility program which will help you put Kaspersky rescue disc on usb http://support.kaspersky.com/8092.

Once you have successful put Kaspersky  rescue disc on your media of choose you will have to change the boot process on the computer. Whether you use USB, or optical drive make sure they are higher on the boot process then the hard drive. Most Computers to enter the BIOS and change the boot process is F2,F12, or DEL once you have chosen your boot order make sure to save the setting.

Place the disc or usb into the computer and restart the computer if successful you will see Kaspersky rescue disc. Kaspersky rescue disc will scan the drives you choose and fix, quarantine, and delete all infections it finds.

How to Find your Wireless Password

Over the years we found many cases where customers need to know there wireless password and forget since this password is not used often. The only time this password is needed is to set up new devices in the wireless network , or to upgrade the firmware.

Where are some tips to help recover or display or wireless setting.

Some wireless router manufacturers set a default security key or password which may be on the bottom of the router, or in the documentation.

If there are devices already setup on the wireless network you can discover the setting from the device.

If the first two options can't be done you may have to log into the router using a PC/laptop and a Ethernet cable connected to LAN port onto the router.

    Open a web browser.

Enter the IP address for your wireless router into the search bar (for example, 192.168.1.1). Look for your router’s default IP address in your router documentation or online.

Enter the user name and password to open your router’s configuration web page. Most router documentation includes the default user name and password.

On the configuration web page, look for a wireless or wireless settings option.

Now, look for a security or wireless encryption setting. The security key (sometimes called a network key, a pass phrase, or a network password) should be listed nearby.
